Biblical Qualifications of a Deacon

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The History of Greater Leavy's Deacon & Deaconess Board

In 1973, while Greater Leavy Missionary Baptist Church was being built under the leadership of the founder and later Pastor, Rev. Paul Cainion, he saw that he needed help with the daily administration of the Church. Therefore, the first Deacon Board was organized at 3594 Bankhead Highway NW with three deacons (INSERT THE NAMES OF THE FIRST THREE DEACONS). After the deacon began taking taking on responsibilities, their wives met together and organized the first Deaconess Board in 1975.

Some of the duties of the Deaconess Board included preparing communion, accompanying the Pastor and Deacons to visit and commune with the sick and shut-in- and organizing meals for those in need. All of these duties and more are still carefully planned and performed by the Boards today.

The deacons and their wives are spiritual bible followers who serve in many capacities for the upkeep of the Church and its people. They are pastoral assistants and overseers of finance, devotion, property usage and maintenance, communion, baptism, membership support, and numerous other functions.

As of May 2017, Greater Leavy has a Deacon Board of five members and a Deaconess Board of seven members. Their fervent prayer is to be blessed with renewed passion and strength to continue to labor in the vineyard of the Lord as servants to His people..
